Halloween wrapup

I didn't wear a Halloween costume this year, because I didn't have any parties to go to, and I didn't think there was going to be anything at work either. There was a costume contest at work after all, but it was only announced a week before and by that time I had already decide to take the day off. Oh, well...

On Halloween night, we had 55 trick-or-treaters this year, up 12 from the 43 last year! Beth thinks the increase is because Thursday is a better night for trick-or-treating than Wednesday.

While handing out candy, we watched two Boris Karloff movies: Isle of the Dead and Die, Monster, Die! Isle is a Val Lewton film where a group of people are trapped on a small Greek island being picked off one by one by a plague -- or is it a vorvolaka? Die, Monster is based on the H. P. Lovecraft story "The Color Out of Space", but the plot was changed to be similar to the Edgar Allen Poe adaptations that Roger Corman was doing at the time. They are both good, but Die, Monster is more fun, with Karloff becoming an aluminum-foil-covered monster at the end.

Here's a picture of Ellen Drew, the local girl suspected of being the vorvolaka in Isle of the Dead:

And here's Suzan Farmer, Boris Karloff's daughter from Die, Monster, Die!:
