What to see...

Mermaids are such flirts

After some extended time off, I'm inching back to daily posting. Except we will be out of town this weekend at a wedding. And we are going to start an intensive housecleaning period, because we have houseguests coming in October. So, we'll see...

Tonight, we've got tickets to Avenue Q. I don't know too much about the show, but everything I've heard sounds good, so I'm excited!

Speaking of musicals, Denver Center Attractions has announced the touring shows for 2009:

New:
The Color Purple
Tang Concubines
Quilters
August: Osage County
A Bronx Tale
Spring Awakening
Little House on the Prairie

Returning:
Phantom of the Opera
Rent
Wicked

Beth and I have seen Wicked, and Beth really wants to see Phantom. So, except for those two, does anyone have any recommendations?

Since you're going to see Avenue Q, I'm going to assume you're not too easily offended and recommend Spring Awakening. It was possibly the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

Besides the content, which I thought was very well done, but still shocking, the technical aspects are fantastic as well. The lights and the scenery had a greater effect on me than did those of either Wicked or Phantom. But that might have been since SA is so emotionally charged.

It's also very much unlike any other musical I've ever seen, in terms of the songs representing the characters' inner thoughts, the use of handheld mics, and the lyrics being anachronistic to the time in which it's set.

In short, it's really good. :)

Thank you! I thought Spring Awakening sounded interesting; good to know it lives up to the hype...
