Prof. John A. Tallmadge, R.I.P.

My father-in-law, Prof. John Tallmadge, died late last night. Here's something Beth wrote and emailed to some friends:

My father, John Tallmadge, passed away at his home in Media, PA some time Saturday night. He turned 80 just a few months ago, and although he had diabetes and had had a mild stroke in the last few years, he was not suffering from any particular ailment that we knew of. Though slowed down, he was still active, and had recently come back from spending a month in Florida following his beloved Phillies around in spring training, and (much to our chagrin) driving his own car around. He lived in the Riddle Village continuing care retirement community and was found Sunday morning when he did not respond to the daily buzzer check-in...

My sisters Jane and Sue, who live much nearer to him, are handling the arrangements. The date for the funeral has not been decided yet. He was a long-time member of the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church and the services will be held there - very tentatively - on the weekend of June 21 (when set, should be able to check the church calendar at www.swarthmorepres.org). Funeral arrangements will be made through the J Nelson Rigby Funeral Home in Media. My husband and I will be going to Phila. for the funeral and then I will probably be staying on another week after that to help close out his apartment.

I'll post future links to obituaries, funeral arrangements, etc.  Also, I may not be meeting my goal of blogging daily until this is over...
