Swing with Shad

I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 a week ago. I missed Half-Blood Prince, so I was a little lost at the beginning. I think I caught up, but I never really cared. Plot points come at you quickly, including some important ones that happen off-screen. For a good portion of the movie, our heroes take turns wearng a necklace that causes them to make bad decisions, for no particular reason except to complicate the plot.  It has some exciting parts, and some funny parts (including one that may have been meant to be dramatic),  but mostly it's a lot of running around and Harry being emo.

Beth and I saw Tangled yesterday, and we both enjoyed it a lot. One of the goals of this movie was always to produce CGI animation with the life and heart of classic Disney animation, and it succeeded admirably. The movie is gorgeous. A more recent goal was also to combine a "princess" movie with a rousing adventure, and it pulled that off too. It didn't do so well at being a musical (another goal that came late in production) -- the songs are all purely functional (except for the music hall number "I've Got a Dream", which is lots of fun). But the story is very tight, and Mother Gothel is a great villain, and there is even a flag! I highly recommend it...
