Plastic, Colorado

You know one of the things I love about Mapquest?  They show all sorts of towns and small communities that don't exist any more.  The maps they bought to start their site must have had them on, and they kept them.  That's cool.

But check out this Mapquest map.  I pass by this area every day on my commute, and there has never been any towns there, and certainly not four!  This puzzled me for a while, then I figured it out.  Can you figure it out too?

This area is where a big flat mountain meadow (Rocky Flats) ends and slopes down into a valley.  And those "towns" are all soil types (Fire Clay gave it away).   The doofuses incorporated some sort of geological map into their site, and thought the soil types on the map were towns!
