Almost immediately, it was challenged as something not worthy of a Wikipedia article, and I wasn't really going to try and save it, because I didn't know much about the subject -- I was hoping a real surfer would come along and fill out the article. And that is what happened -- a Wikipedia user named Myheartinchile adopted the article and added properly-sourced additional information and saved the article!

So, what I'm saying is that Wikipedia works (in my limited experience), and it's fun!

Happy National Catfish Day!

June 25th, 2008 (12:50 am)

Finally, I am posting early enough in they day that it makes sense to tell you about the day's holiday. And that holiday is National Catfish Day! I'm not that big of a fan of catfish, but I knew that DeviantArt would probably have plenty of catfish mermaids to share, and I was right:

Of course, they also have punning catfish mermaids, which don't resemble catfish but do resemble cats:

In other news, I am headed to Philadelphia for the funeral tomorrow, so don't expect any more posts until I'm back...

And yes I did miss posting yesterday, but I'm going to follow my new policy and not bore you with an excuse.

Happy Tiny Bikini Day!

May 30th, 2008 (09:36 pm)

Today is Tiny Bikini Day! I know that I said I would stop telling you about holidays when they are almost over, but I just had to post to say that I saw no one wearing a bikini today, tiny or otherwise. I think this holiday needs more publicity, so next year I will start early...

I was going to look up some tiny bikini links for y'all, but let me tell you what -- if you Google "tiny bikini", you will see that it is possible for a bikini to be too small... So just one link, to Wicked Weasel, fine Australian purveyors of small swim wear...

(No post yesterday because of our third anniversary! Yay marriage!)

Free Comic Book Day

May 3rd, 2008 (12:05 pm)

Just a reminder, before it is too late, that today is Free Comic Book Day!  So go get your free comics!

Today is also Lumpy Rug Day, but I don't think you get anything free for that...

Happy Loyalty Day?

May 1st, 2008 (11:55 pm)

It turns out that in addition to May Day, today is (was, since it is almost over) Loyalty Day. And what is Loyalty Day? It turns out to be an American reaction to the fact that many communist (& socialist) countries celebrate their Labor Day on May 1. So, in the 1920's, someone invented Americanization Day for Americans to celebrate on May 1, which soon morphed into Loyalty Day. Eventually in 1958, the congress made Loyalty Day an official holiday.

So what are you supposed to do on Loyalty Day? Well, reaffirmation your loyalty to the United States and recognize the heritage of American freedom, of course. That'll show the commies!

And why does Loyalty Day still exist now that the Cold War is over? Beats me, but President Clinton re-proclaimed Loyalty Day in 1993, and President Dubya did the same in 2007, so I guess we are still stuck with it for a while...

Girl Scout Cookie Question

March 12th, 2008 (11:44 pm)

Today was Girl Scout Day, so I have a question about Girl Scout cookies: Are "Tagalongs" pronounced tag-a-longs or ta-ga-longs? I like the second one because it sounds funny, but everyone else seem to use the first one...

Miss Colfax

March 4th, 2008 (11:51 pm)

If you are from around Denver (or you watch South Park), you're familiar with Colfax Avenue, Denver's "street of sin".  And if you are, it would probably amuse you to learn that there is a Miss Colfax  -- a new one every month in fact, chosen by colfaxavenue.com.  Here's the link to Miss Colfax March 2008 Amy Fisher, who is pretty much what you'd expect from a Miss Colfax.  Sometimes Denver is a great city ;-)

If you are still in a St. Patrick's Day mood, here's Miss Colfax March 2007 Red Hot...

The day that comes only once every four years!  Precursor to Olympics and presidential elections!  Have a happy extra day, and don't waste it!

My Google-fu has deserted me -- I can not find any cool Leap Day images anywhere!  If I'd known it might be a problem, I would have made something, but it's too late now...

We will be in Wyoming this weekend, so see you all on Monday!
